  • Welcome to Monica & Adam's Eurodiary, a site with our thoughts, observations, and photos from the two months we will be living in the Netherlands and traveling through northwestern Europe (note the flags at the left).

To give you some background, Adam is studying at the Erasmus University Rotterdam School of Management on a two-month exchange, and I am working at RAND's European headquarters in Leiden, about a half hour away by train (though in fact the entire commute, including walking and a local tram or bus ride in Rotterdam, takes about an hour).

Most (but not all) weekdays, Adam and I will be weighing in with new journal entries, so check back as often as you like. The entries will remain posted, with links in the table on the right.

We brought along our digital camera, but mostly I'll be taking regular photos with my Canon SLR, and I may "scan" some of the resulting images to share with you as well. (That is, I'll take a digital photo of the print photo, a process akin to making a photocopy by using a fax machine.)

In case you're curious about our weekend travel schedule, here are our tentative plans:

    8-9 SeptAmsterdam
    15-16 SeptDelft and Haarlem
    21-23 SeptParis(!)
    30 SeptBrugge
5-7 OctAlsace-Lorraine, France (specifically, Colmar), with a stop in Luxembourg
    14 OctAmsterdam
    21 OctAmsterdam (hey, it's nearby...)
    27-31 OctLondon (and Oxford?)

If you want to write to us, such as with comments in response to our musings, or with suggestions of where to go or what to see (if you've been to the places above), we're both online (Adam and school, Monica at work). Adam's email is ahertzman@yahoo.com and Monica's is monica_hertzman@hotmail.com.

We hope you enjoy what we've written (and will eventually write, and also the photos we take.

Ciao! or, as they say in Dutch, tot ziens!

By the way, our original homepage -- which includes links to Adam's grandmother's book Maishele and our original cybertour of Jerusalem, can be found at hertzman.tripod.com/oldindex.html.
